Ma’s program will include classical and modern pieces from the western and the Chinese tradition as well as her own compositions.
Ma is a virtuoso on the erhu, the traditional Chinese two-stringed violin. A graduate of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, she served as artistic advisor to the Shanghai Grand Theatre and Cultural Ambassador in Shanghai’s successful bid for the 2010 World Exposition.
Ma has maintained an active performance schedule with concerts throughout the world, including appearances with the St. Gallen Symphony Orchestra in Switzerland, the Berlin Philharmonic, the National Symphony Orchestra of China and at Carnegie Hall. Ma also played the erhuin a duet with cellist Yo-Yo Ma on the soundtrack of the film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
An international artist of great versatility, Ma enjoys solo performances,ensemble playing and educating the audience about the importance and impact of music in general and the erhu in particular.
